Skirting Your Mobile Home

When it comes to mobile homes, there are many important and unsightly components between the house and the ground. Having these workings exposed makes them especially susceptible to rust, rot, and deterioration.  For this reason, skirting is an essential component of any mobile home exterior. Beyond hiding the more unsightly aspects and increasing the curb appeal, skirting is an easy solution to protect your home from a number of other threats.

Since many mobile homes are on a cement pad, it is often required that you have proper skirting around your home. The skirting’s most important job is to keep out vermin who might choose to nest under your home.  Properly installed skirting will protect you from these nasty pests who could potentially chew through or damage your plumbing, electrical, or air conditioning connectors.

When installing skirting, make sure that you make the necessary adjustments for proper front and rear ventilation. Additionally, you want to make sure that there is proper draining to keep water from standing beneath your home. If allowed to puddle, water can cause thousands of dollars of preventable damage.

For some people, the most important element of skirting is simply the improved curb appeal. It projects a sense of security and structural integrity. A properly skirted mobile home reinforces that even though it is mobile, it’s there to stay. Without it, beyond just looking less attractive, the home looks like it will take off at a second’s notice.

Please consult with your lot supervisor for the skirting requirements where you live. Additionally, view our selection of skirting under the “Exterior Maintenance” tab.
